Top 3 Reasons to Chain Ply Your Handspun yarn

Chain plying is a way of using the hand spun yarn on a single bobbin to create a finished 3-ply yarn. You are plying this singles yarn on itself similar to how you make a crochet chain. It is a fun and efficient way to ply!

So why chain ply you may ask? Here are my top reasons for using this technique of plying.

1. Keeping color blocks together. Chain plying is the best and easiest way to keep the color blocks together when you are working with those lovely dyed braids. You can adjust how short or long your draw is so that you can create a yarn that runs through the colors one at a time.
2. Great way to use up extra yarn. It seems like no matter how much we weigh out our fiber there always remains some amount of yarn on a bobbin when you are done plying. Chain plying is a great technique for emptying those bobbins quickly and still being able to use that precious handspun yarn.
3. Quick way to get a 3 ply yarn. Let's face it, some of us (me, me!) just don't have the patience to spin up 3 bobbins of singles to make up that 3 ply yarn.
